6th European FWD User Group Meeting – Structural Condition Assessment
Areas of Expertise (1)>>
Core Tasks (1)>>
On 10 and 11 June 2010, the Belgian Road Research Centre hosted a seminar devoted to the FWD (Falling Weight Deflectometer) and Structural Condition Assessment.
This meeting provided an opportunity for road managers and pavement engineers to be informed and to exchange ideas about the latest and future developments in the assessment of structural pavement condition.
The seminar covered several FWD-related subjects –instrument development, maintenance, calibration, analysis models and test procedures-, with emphasis on the main objective of FWD measurements: non-destructive structural condition assessment of pavements from deflection values.
It provided an opportunity to learn from experience with the FWD and with other measurement devices for structural condition assessment based on deflections (such as High-Speed/Traffic-Speed Deflectometer, Curviameter, Lacroix Deflectograph, etc.). It addressed advanced interpretation techniques of all measurement data, as well as the importance of calibration and correct measurement techniques, knowledge on layer thickness and material properties, the influence of temperature, the possibilities and limitations of modelling, back-calculation and interpretation of FWD measurements, etc.
The meeting took place under the chairmanship of Carl Van Geem (BRRC) and was organized by the EuroFWD Board:
- Christ van Gurp – KOAC NPC
- Brian Ferne – TRL
- Helge Mork – NTNU
- Robert Braber – Infralab
